Welcome to the Imani Consulting Group

The Opportunity

Not every bookkeeping role is the same. Some are repetitive. Some are highly corporate. Some leave you doing the exact same thing every day with very little variety or room to grow.

This isn’t one of those roles.

Imani Consulting Group is a small accounting and consulting firm that works closely with a wide range of small business clients across industries including restaurants, construction, retail, professional services, and more.

Right now, we’re looking for someone who enjoys bookkeeping, likes learning how businesses actually operate, and wants to become part of a smaller team where their work genuinely matters.

This role is ideal for someone who already has a bit of real-world bookkeeping experience under their belt, but who still wants mentorship, guidance, and the opportunity to continue growing.

You won’t be thrown into the deep end alone. You’ll work directly with the owner, learn how different businesses operate behind the scenes, and become a key part of helping clients stay organized, supported, and running smoothly.

If you’re someone who likes variety, enjoys problem-solving, asks good questions, and wants to keep learning, this could be a really good fit.

What the Role Looks Like

This position will support ongoing bookkeeping and year-end preparation work for a variety of small business clients. Day-to-day responsibilities may include:

  • Bank and credit card reconciliations

  • Accounts payable and accounts receivable support

  • Maintaining accurate bookkeeping records

  • Preparing supporting documentation for year-end files

  • Assisting with compilation and year-end prep work

  • Reviewing client records for completeness and accuracy

  • Working within Sage and QuickBooks

  • Supporting multiple clients across different industries

  • Communicating internally regarding questions, discrepancies, and follow-ups

This is not a “plug numbers into a system all day” kind of role.

Different clients operate differently, and the person in this role needs to be comfortable learning how businesses work, thinking through situations, and adapting accordingly.

What We’re Hoping You Bring

We’re less focused on finding the “perfect resume” and more interested in finding someone who is capable, practical, curious, and willing to learn.

Some things that would help:

  • 2+ years of bookkeeping or accounting support experience

  • Experience with Sage and/or QuickBooks

  • Accounting or bookkeeping education/training

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Good communication and comprehension skills

  • Comfortable asking questions when needed

  • Ability to manage multiple files and priorities

  • Interest in learning different industries and business models

  • A practical, down-to-earth attitude

You do not need to be a CPA. You do not need years and years of senior accounting experience. In fact, this role is likely best suited for someone who still wants to grow and develop their skills in a hands-on environment.

Why This Role Could Be Different From Others

  • Direct mentorship and support

  • Exposure to a wide variety of businesses and industries

  • Opportunity to grow with a smaller firm

  • Variety in the work itself

  • A collaborative environment where questions are encouraged

  • Real responsibility and real impact

  • A business owner who values practical thinking and openness to new ideas
